‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ musical to open on Broadway this season

“Mrs. Doubtfire” is coming to Broadway this season.

The musical, based on the Twentieth Century Fox film, will play the Stephen Sondheim Theatre beginning March 9, 2020, with an opening night on April 5. Directed by Jerry Zaks, the musical stars Rob McClure in the title role.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” features a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell and music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, the same creative team behind “Something Rotten!” Lorin Latarro, who previously worked on “Waitress,” will choreograph.

Kevin McCollum, who also led “Something Rotten!” “In the Heights” and “Rent,” among others, is producing.

In addition to McClure, who recently appeared on Broadway in “Beetlejuice,” the principal cast includes Jenn Gambatese as Miranda Hillard, Brad Oscar as Frank Hillard, Analise Scarpaci as Lydia Hillard, Jake Ryan Flynn as Christopher Hillard, Avery Sell as Natalie Hillard, J. Harrison Ghee as Andre, Mark Evans as Stuart Dunmeyer, Charity Angél Dawson as Wanda Sellner and Peter Bartlett as Mr. Jolly.

Before coming to Broadway, “Mrs. Doubtfire” will have its world premiere at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle from Nov. 26 to Dec. 29.

The musical is capitalized for up to $18 million, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Additional members of the creative team include David Korins on scenic design, Catherine Zuber on costume design, Philip Rosenberg on lighting design, Brian Ronan on sound design.

“Mrs. Doubtfire,” which was previously a title in the Fox catalog, is presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
