Laura Linney is returning to Broadway next season in Elizabeth Strout’s “My Name is Lucy Barton.”

The play will run at the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre beginning Jan. 6, 2020, with an opening night set for Jan. 15. Richard Eyre, who directed “Private Lives” and “Mary Poppins” on Broadway, will direct.

This marks the American premiere of the London Theatre Company production, which ran at the Bridge Theatre in London in 2018 and 2019 and had Linney in the starring role of the solo play.

Linney returns to Broadway and to the Manhattan Theatre Club following her role in “The Little Foxes” in 2017.

The play, adapted by Rona Munro from Strout’s novel, follows Barton and the complicated relationship she has with her mother.

The creative team includes Bob Crowley on scenic and costume design, lighting designer Peter Mumford, sound designer John Leonard and projection designer Luke Halls.

The play will be produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club in association with Penguin Random House Audio.

“My Name is Lucy Barton” joins Manhattan Theatre Club’s already announced Broadway production of “The Height of the Storm. “

The Manhattan Theatre Club will announce one additional Broadway production for the 2019-2020 season at a later date.
