Anna D. Shapiro to direct ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ musical

Anna D. Shapiro, the artistic director of Steppenwolf Theatre Company, has been tapped to direct ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ musical. The musical features music by Sir Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub and a book by Paul Rudnick.

Anna D. Shapiro, the artistic director of Steppenwolf Theatre Company, has been tapped to direct ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ musical.

The musical features music by Sir Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub and a book by Paul Rudnick. A production timeline and casting for the musical, which has been described as “in development for Broadway,” will be announced at a later date.

“I am truly honored to be a part of this incredible project,” Shapiro said. “Working with Shaina, Paul, and Sir Elton has already proven to be one of the great thrills of my career, and I look forward to bringing Lauren’s beloved world to the stage.”

Shapiro is a Tony Award-winner for directing “August: Osage County” in 2008. She received a nomination in 2011 for her direction of “The Motherfucker with the Hat.” Her most recent Broadway credit is “Straight White Men” last summer.

Kevin McCollum, Fox Stage Productions and Rocket Entertainment are producing “The Devil Wears Prada” musical.
