“Once Upon a One More Time,” a musical comedy featuring the music of Britney Spears, will make its world premiere in Chicago this fall ahead of a planned Broadway run.
Produced by James L. Nederlander, the musical will open at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago from Oct. 29 through Dec. 1. The plan is to head to Broadway after that.
The musical features a book by Jon Hartmere, who wrote the screenplay for “The Upside,” direction by Kirstin Hanggi, director of “Rock of Ages” and choreography by Keone & Mari Madrid, who choreographed Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”
The musical’s book features fairytale princesses including Cinderella and Snow White as they meet for a book club where a fairy godmother delivers copies of “The Feminine Mystique.”
“I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs – especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore,” said Spears. “This is a dream come true for me!”
“Throughout her career, Britney has captivated fans across the globe with her singular brand of energy and resilience,” James L. Nederlander said in the press release. “For three years, we have been working closely with her to develop a concept that perfectly encapsulates her unique spirit, and are so thrilled to finally bring this joyous and electrifying show to the stage.”
