A musical adaptation of “Magic Mike” will premiere in Boston this fall with plans for a Broadway run.

The musical, featuring a score by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey and directed by Trip Cullman, will play the Emerson Colonial Theatre from Nov. 30, 2019 through Jan. 5, 2020. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who developed television show “Riverdale” and wrote the book for “American Pyscho” and revised “Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark,” wrote the book of the musical.

“Magic Mike” features choreography by Camille A. Brown, the choreographer of “Once on This Island” and “Choir Boy,” which was directed by Cullman.

The musical is produced by Channing Tatum, star of the “Magic Mike” movies, Steven Soderbergh, Gregory Jacobs, Nick Wechsler, Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan.

This is a prequel to the two “Magic Mike” films, “Magic Mike” which was released in 2012 and “Magic Mike XXL” which was released in 2015, and follows Mike Lane, portrayed by Channing in the films, when he first takes a job as a male entertainer and tries to hide his occupation from his father and girlfriend.

“When we were shooting ‘Magic Mike,’ I looked at myself in a thong and thought: ‘well Chan, say goodbye to your career!’ So the idea that seven years later a Pulitzer Prize-winning creative team would be making a full-fledged musical prequel is definitive proof that God loves strippers,” Tatum said in the press release.

Kitt and York are Pulitzer Prize winners for “Next to Normal.”

A separate, live stage version of “Magic Mike” launched in Las Vegas in 2017 and opened in London last year.

The “Magic Mike” team said future Broadway plans will be announced at a later date, as will additional creative team members and the cast.

Nina Essman and Marcia Goldberg are the executive producers of “Magic Mike The Musical.”
