Ruth Wilson, Elizabeth Marvel, Jayne Houdyshell join cast of Broadway’s ‘King Lear’

Ruth Wilson, Elizabeth Marvel, Jayne Houdyshell and more will star alongside Glenda Jackson, who will play the titular role in “King Lear” on Broadway.

The principal cast will also include Aisling O’Sullivan, Pedro Pascal and John Douglas Thompson. The production, produced by Scott Rudin and directed by Sam Gold, will play the Golden Theatre beginning Feb. 28, 2019, with an opening night on April 4, 2019.

Houdyshel will play the Earl of Gloucester, with Wilson, last seen on Broadway in “Constellations,” as Cordelia and the Fool, Marvel, recently seen on “House of Cards,” as Goneril and O’Sullivan, in her Broadway debut, as Regan. Pascal will play Edmund and Thompson will play the Earl of Kent.

Sean Carvajal, Dion Johnstone, Russell Harvard and Matthew Maher are also featured in the production as Edgar, the Duke of Albany and the Duke of Cornwall, respectively. More casting will be announced at a later date.

“King Lear” will play a strictly limited engagement, running through July 7, 2019.

The play will feature an original score by Philip Glass, scenic design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Jane Cox and sound design by Scott Lehrer.
