The Tony Awards will continue airing on CBS for the next several years despite the departure of CBS chief executive Les Moonves, a major proponent of the broadcast.
The broadcast is slated to remain on CBS at least through 2026 as part of an agreement with the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. Moonves has been cited as the reason the network continues to air the Tony Awards despite its low ratings.
Moonves stepped down from CBS Sunday after six more women accused him of sexual harassment. CBS Chief Operating Officer Jospeh Ianniello is acting as temporary CEO until a replacement is found.
The Tony Awards have been broadcast on CBS since 1978.
