Scott Delman of Blue Spruce Productions has acquired the live theatrical rights to the film from Alcon Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment, who produced the 2005 movie and its sequel. Delman will be the lead producer and Alcon and Alloy have the option to invest in and co-produce future productions of the musical.

The two companies also have approval rights over the stage adaptation and will be involved in the development. The films came out of a series of novels by Ann Brashares.

The creative team for the musical is being assembled.

Delman’s company has invested in “Mean Girls,” “Hello, Dolly!” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” among others.
