Musical adaptation of ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ to have world premiere in 2019

A musical adaptation of “The Secret Life of Bees,” with a book by Lynn Nottage and music by Duncan Sheik, will have its world premiere as part of the Atlantic Theater Company’s 2018-2019 season.

A musical adaptation of “The Secret Life of Bees,” with a book by Lynn Nottage and music by Duncan Sheik, will have its world premiere as part of the Atlantic Theater Company’s 2018-2019 season.

Based on the novel by Sue Monk Kidd, the musical, directed by Sam Gold and with lyrics by Susan Birkenhead, will begin previews May 10, 2019 at the Linda Gross Theater. The rest of the season includes three world premieres of plays and the U.S. premiere of Florian Zeller’s play “The Mother,” starring Isabelle Huppert and directed by Trip Cullman.

“The Mother,” which has been translated by Christopher Hampton, will begin previews in February 2019, with an opening night March 11.

The world premiere of “Blue Ridge” written by Abby Rosebrock and directed by Taibi Magar, will feature Marin Ireland. The opening night is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2019.

Written by and starring Amy Staats, the world premiere of the play “Eddie and Dave” will be directed by Margot Bordelon and open on Jan. 22, 2019 .

The world premiere of “Fireflies,” which is the second in a trilogy written by Donja R. Love and directed by Saheem Ali will open Oct. 15, 2018.

The New York premiere of “Nomad Motel,” written by Carla Ching, has an opening night on June 3, 2019.
