David Adjmi appeared on Stephen J. Dubner’s Freakonomics podcast to discuss the creation of the 2024 Best Play Tony Award winner, “Stereophonic,” as well as its path to the Main Stem and the duo’s views on the current health of the industry.

“Stereophonic” opened on April 19 at the John Golden Theatre. The twice-extended production will play a limited run through Jan. 5, 2025. The Daniel Aukin-helmed play, which features original music by Will Butler, was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, a record for a straight play. In addition to the award for Best Play, the production won four other Tonys, including one for Aukin.
