The Broadway League announced on Tuesday a continuation of the “mask optional policy” through August and until further notice for all Broadway theaters. The statement reads, “Consistent with New York City and State recommendations, audience members are strongly encouraged to wear masks in theaters.”

The first mask optional policy was announced in June, for performances beginning July 1. When the policy was first announced, it was stated that the mask policy for August and beyond would be announced at a later date as the science surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve.

Although the original policy was announced for all 41 Broadway theaters, the producers of ‘American Buffalo’ and ‘The Minutes’ announced that audiences for both productions would be required to wear masks through the end of their runs. ‘American Buffalo’ closed on July 10, and ‘The Minutes’ will conclude its run on July 24.
