Bean, who has starred in “Wicked” and “Waitress” on Broadway, will play the role of Susan Young, daughter to the character played by Billy Crystal. In addition to the new casting, the new musical pushed its start date at the Nederlander Theatre by one month.

The production will start previews on March 29, 2022, ahead of an April 27 opening. “Mr. Saturday Night” was previously scheduled to begin March 1, ahead of a March 31 opening night. The production did not provide a reason for the shift in dates; however, many shows have been pushing back start dates due to the spread of the Omicron variant.

In addition to Bean and Crystal, the cast includes Randy Graff, David Paymer, Chasten Harmon, Jordan Gelber, Brian Gonzales and Mylinda Hull.

“Mr. Saturday Night” features a score by Jason Robert Brown and lyrics by Amanda Green. Crystal wrote the book to the musical, alongside Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, who were fellow screenwriters for the 1992 film the musical was adapted from. John Rando directs the new musical

The production transfers to Broadway after a nine-performance presentation at Barrington Stage, where the role of Susan Young was played by Alysha Umphress. The musical is produced by James L. Nederlander and Nederlander Presentations, Inc. and by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures.
