Greg Kinnear will take over the starring role of Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Jan. 5, producer Barry Diller announced Wednesday.

He assumes the role from original cast member Jeff Daniels, who plays his final performance on Jan. 2. Kinnear was initially scheduled to play Atticus on Broadway in April 2020, but never performed due to the theatrical shutdown.

Kinnear, a film and television actor known for his roles in “As Good As It Gets,” “Little Miss Sunshine” and “You’ve Got Mail,” will make his Broadway debut with the role.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” was originally written by Harper Lee and adapted by Aaron Sorkin for Broadway. The production, which is directed by Bartlett Sher, has been playing the Shubert Theatre since November 2018. It reopened on Oct. 5 after the pandemic-forced hiatus and without Scott Rudin as a lead producer. Orin Wolf has taken on the role of executive producer.
